Ian Somerhalder is currently staring in the CW television series “The Vampire Diaries." In this series he plays, Damon Salvatore, a 146 year old vampire who is the blood thirsty, badass, older brother of Stefan Salvatore. Damon started out this season not caring at all for human life and having no humanity what so ever. Damon lived his life with no regret. He did what he wanted when he wanted, even if it meant killing innocent human beings. Upon returning Damon notices that Elena, Stefan’s girlfriend who is a "dead-ringer" for Katherine. (Katherine being Damon’s ex and one true love, who turned him and broke his heart,) No one knew why Damon had returned to Mystic Falls, except for himself. He had a diabolical plot to get Katherine back and live happily ever after with her.

Katherine has been away in a tomb under the church since 1864 when the town’s founding families first discovered the vampires. Damon's life mission was to get into that tomb, destroying anything or anyone that got in his way. Finally, with the help of a couple witches Damon got into the tomb, only to discover that Katherine was not in there. Right then we finally saw the side to Damon that no one knew he had. It was then that we saw that Damon did have some humanity in him. In that moment Damon’s badass side faded away and a more vulnerable side appeared.

Damon originally came to this town to destroy it, but though in time he found himself trying to protect it and the ones in it. He finds himself having feelings, feeling bad for the people he has hurt in the past, opening up to the people around him, and most importantly, he finds himself falling in love with Elena; Stefan’s girlfriend.
