Jasmine Guy, better known as ‘Grams’ or Sheila Bennett on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ is the maternal grandmother of Bonnie, and also a descendant of the legendary Emily Bennett.  Sheila, a local college professor specializing in occultism, is a sweet and caring woman, and secretly a very powerful witch.  She first met Stefan when Sheila spoke at a Protest Rally in 1969.  They Re-unite in the present, during Episode 11, ‘Bloodlines’.  Bonnie and Sheila opened the infamous tomb, once sealed by Emily in hopes of helping Elena, Stefan, and Damon. The spell goes awry leaving the tomb permanently unsealed and Grams without the strength to go on; Grams passes away at the end of ‘Fool Me Once’, causing Bonnie severe heartache and distant between her and Elena.

Jasmine Guy born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 10, 1962 to Jaye Rudolph and Reverend William Guy is of Portuguese of African American descent.  Raised in Atlanta, GA she attended Northside Performing Arts High School (Now known as North Atlanta High School) and later went on to attend Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City.  In 1998, she married Terrence Duckett and the following year their daughter Imani was born.  They divorced in 2008 due to irreconcilable differences.

Best known for her role as Whitney Gilbert in the sitcom, ‘A Different World’, the self titled: actress, singer, and dancer landed her first role as an extra in the 1982 sitcom ‘Fame’.  From there Jasmine went on to appear in, ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’, ‘Living Single’, ‘The Parkers’, ‘That's So Raven’, ‘Melrose Place’, ‘Touched by an Angel’, and ‘Dead Like Me: Life After Death’.  One of her few movie roles came during the early years of A Different World when Jasmine was cast to portray Dominique La Rue in 1989's ‘Harlem Nights’.  Since then she has been cast in movies such as, ‘A Killer Among Us’, ‘Guinevere’, ‘The Ladies Man’, and ‘Diamond Men’.

Jasmine has been well known for starring on Broadway, with roles consisting of, Crow, in The Wiz, Mickey, in Leader of the Pack, Betty Rizzo, in Grease and as , Velma Kelly, in Chicago. Most recently she starred in Pearl Cleage's Blues for an Alabama Sky in Atlanta.  
In the early 90's Jasmine released four singles, "Try Me”, "Another Like My Lover", "Just Want to Hold you", and "Don't Want Money".  Her voice can also be recognized encouraging others to read about, ‘Tupac Shakur on Deejay Ra's 'Hip-Hop Literacy' campaign, and in the Warner Brothers animated film, ‘Cats Don't Dance’ as the voice of Sawyer Cat.  

 
A good friend of the late Tupac Shakur, Jasmine helped his mother, Afeni Shakur, write her biography "Evolution of a Revolutionary”.  It has been said by the actress that she is a consumer and when she is not working she is shopping.  As an avid supporter of the ‘LGBT community’ and their rights, Jasmine believes,            
There is no sexuality that is greater or lesser than another!" 
Jasmine will guest star in Season Two of Lifetime's, ‘Drop Dead Diva’.
